Like someone famously said, if you're young and not liberal, you don't have a heart. If you're old and not conservative, you don't have a head. Wonder where that leaves middle-aged folks? Probably close to where Bill Clinton described his approach in 1992, "taking the best of conservatism and discarding the worst of progressivism" to create a new centrist approach.
The secular right view is long overdue in Indian public dialogue. We don't need the false choices offered by the hard left and the hard right. Why can't politicians live without a conflict between the head and the heart, just like the rest of us?
